 Enter the Gates of understanding. Angry Deva's Spiritual Mentorship work is based on scientific & metaphysical information regarding the human body and mind's response to trauma and the way certain events impact or alter our DNA. I have had many people ignorantly try and inform me of the "detrimental impact of anger" on the body. "Anger is unhealthy" they say. "Anger ends up breaking you down over time," they claim. While this is certainly the case for some people, it isn't true as a general statement. These people, though they mean well, abuse facts and twist them to support their biased and often ill-informed theories. They do not, however, consider the science of Trauma and its impact on the body, the DNA itself. Cortisol is vitally important in helping your body to return to normal after a traumatic event. Survivors of trauma, and their descendants, produce less cortisol over time. With each generation having less and less of this life saving cortisol. It should be well known that anger can be both good and bad. For a survivor of a traumatic event, or as in the case of black women and girls, traumatic events that span hundreds of years and multiple generations; higher levels of cortisol, when produced and managed properly, can be a good thing. When I began to embrace my anger or outrage at different traumatic phenomena that occurred in my life, I also began to see a shift in my ability to bounce back. It is well known that there is good and bad cholesterol. As it should be well known that anger can be both good and bad. For a survivor of a traumatic event, or as in the case of black women and girls, traumatic events that span hundreds of years and multiple generations; higher levels of cortisol, when produced and managed properly, can be a good thing. When I began to embrace my anger or outrage at different traumatic phenomena that occurred in my life, I also began to see a shift in my ability to bounce back. Prior to creating the show and allowing myself to express vs impress my anger, I was stagnant and lost. I had no idea how I was going to recover. Or if I ever could recover. Once I began to speak, I learned that impressing the upset, the anger on myself was tantamount to suffering yet another traumatic event. This is the real reason we see a high weight problem among black wombn. She cannot speak without being called angry or dismissed as damaged; so she impresses it upon herself. Often via eating terribly. Please remember, words and thoughts are food too.  Aramaic phrase meaning let the thing be destroyed, your words can create the new and destroy the old. Therefore, for we who have survived trauma, sexual assault, childhood abuse and more, those who struggle with PTSD can actually be aided by embracing their anger vs suppressing it. As Black Wombn, given the history of forced racial suffering we have endured, we greatly benefit from learning healthy ways to embrace our Anger as Power. Suppressing your natural reaction and response to upsetting stimuli is not an act of self love, self mastery or self control. It is an act of seeking for societal approval, and to be honest, the approval of others means nothing in the grand scheme of your wellness. Other people will pat you on the back and reserve their accusation of "bitter" and dismissal of you as "damaged," only for a time. This is designed to lull you into a false sense of support. But it isn't a long term, self loving solution for you. Please bear in mind that people call black women bitter, angry, and damaged to get us on the defense. This is a gas-lighting technique that is ritualistically enacted upon black women and girls. We must no longer tolerate this blatant erasure and silencing.
Other people are not comfortable with anger. Most of them are also traumatized survivors who haven't allowed themselves the proper tools to heal. Our culture is overly focused on suppression via "forgiveness" and "moving on" which means ignoring the problem and pretending it never happened. Consider these to be crimes against your person-hood, your psyche and your growth. Anger is a powerful and Spiritual agent of self transformation and change. Anger is an antidote for survivors of trauma who suffer PTSD and other traumatic responses/reactions. Embrace the power of your anger sister. Suppression and denial of your feelings translates as perceived un-importance and assuages our societal guilt in collectively, globally, tragically failing to protect women & girls. Christ This is an image of God, all of the early images of God appeared this way. Long Pendulous Breasts, a Full belly, Full thighs and round hips. Why is THIS the face of God? Because THIS is an image of the Great Blak Mamma of Creation, of Fatty-Ma, of Fat-Her. Though the patriarchy has worked diligently to erase and suppress our awareness and remembrance of her, she lives on in statuary and monumental carvings. The first images of God looked like this. Note the tight coils atop her head, indicating her Ethnic Origins. This is an effigy of the Great Blak Mama of Creation. The more we distance ourselves from her image, the greater we see the hatred expressed to her daughters who look just like her. Today on Afro Punk I saw so many hateful comments directed at a black wombn who is fat. I felt compelled to speak on it. I am reminded of the Mother Goddess. (See first picture) I am reminded of Fatty-Ma aka Fatima. I am reminded of Fat-Her, Big Mama, A Wombn whose body has changed because she labored to bring future leaders into this material plane of force. Or, as one of our Fans said when we initially shared this image: "Yasss! Gracious Goddesses with hips that span continents and all manner of breasts that attract deceitful lovers and suckle ungrateful children...she is everything. I love her and I love you for SEEING her. ~ Aemeri Kenasen" And though I do not look like her, unlike far too many people; I am so secure in me that I don't need to tear down a fat woman. When people say "let's not encourage obesity" with each and every photo black wombn take in celebration of herself, it speaks volumes.
